Quick Homemade Granola

Nutty, cinnamon-kissed granola, sweetened with honey and air-crisped to golden perfection. Quick, easy and delicious!

Granola was first created around the late 19th century by a physician named Dr. James Caleb Jackson. He developed a baked mixture of graham flour, which he called ‘granula’. Later, John Harvey Kellogg (yup, Kellogg from the cereal) developed a similar recipe but had to change the name to ‘granola’ due to a legal dispute with Dr. Jackson over the name ‘granula’. Granola gained popularity during the 1960s and 1970s due to its high nutritional value and association with natural and wholesome ingredients. It quickly took many household shelves by storm and became a staple in health food stores. The basic ingredients of granola typically include rolled oats, nuts, seeds, honey or sweetener, and sometimes dried fruits. These ingredients are mixed together, baked until crisp, and then enjoyed as a breakfast cereal or snack. Over time, various adaptations and flavours of granola emerged, such as incorporating ingredients like coconut flakes, chocolate chips, and many more.

Ingredients

  • 300 g Rolled Oats
  • 100 g Walnuts roughly chopped or hand broken
  • 50 g Sunflower Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 130 g Ground Cinnamon

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. Mix well to ensure everything is evenly distributed.
  • Sprinkle the cinnamon powder over the mixture and mix again. Finally, add the honey and stir until the granola mixture is well coated and begins to form small clumps.
Why This Order?: Mixing the cinnamon powder before adding the honey ensures it evenly distributes throughout the granola. If added at the same time, the cinnamon would stick to the honey and not mix properly.
  • If you have a small to medium air fryer, cook the granola in batches to prevent uneven cooking. Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper for safety. Preheat the air fryer if required. Spread a thin layer of granola in the basket, breaking up any large clumps. Air fry at 170°C for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Every 3 minutes, remove the basket and mix the granola to ensure even cooking.
⚠️ Different air fryer models may vary in temperature settings, so adjust accordingly.
  • Transfer the granola to a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and spread it out to cool completely. Store it in an airtight container at room temperature.
  • Serve with yogurt and fresh fruit of choice.

Notes

STORAGE
